Likes Don't Pay The Bills. But Smart Strategies Do.
Hello my curious readers,
We all love likes, we love watching numbers jump, hearts pop up, and comments roll in. It feels so good like a tiny digital applause. In our fast-paced world today, people judge a brand faster than they judge pineapple on pizza. Yes, and in under three seconds sometimes. One scroll, one tap, one glance, and your audience has already decided whether they’ll engage with you or move on to the next shiny thing on their feed.
Sounds familiar right?π
The truth is, social media aren’t just the place where people share fancy vacation photos or quick dance challenges anymore (even though these trends are still hot). Social media are the front door to your brand. The very first impression actually; and if your door looks uninviting, outdated, or even worse, forgettable, π then your audience won’t even bother knocking. Attention spans are so limited and scrolling is unstoppable, that’s why I decided to write about this topic and share my thoughts on likes & profitability.
⚙ The Problem: Too Many Voices, Not Enough Attention
While you sit and plan your next viral reel, thousands have already jumped on the latest trend, faster than the speed of light. That’s how overwhelming it gets sometimes, especially with the massive amounts of content being produced & consumed every minute. To sum it up, attention spans are shrinking, the market is saturated, and every brand is shouting louder than the other. Moreover, I’ve noticed that most businesses really struggle to cut through all that noise. I mean no body said it was going to be easy. One major issue that I’ve recently discussed with some amazing founders is that competition is fierce. So you either sink or swim.
Everyone’s talking about AI replacing many business functions or even influencers and while that is true to a large extent, that’s a topic left for another article. π
Let’s be real, the internet is loud. Online presence is important but attention spans are shorter than ever (thank you, TikTok π). Posting randomly or copying what everyone else is doing isn’t a strategy, it’s just digital noise, in my opinion. What you need isn’t more content, but the right content, served to the right people, in the right way. This means not only posting strategically; but also, focusing on curating specific value-based marketing strategies for specific audiences; if you really want to stand out. Lastly, there’s too much focus on likes and not on strategy.
π― The Secret Sauce: Strategy ▶ Story ▶ Execution
Content that hits is never an accident, it’s carefully crafted. So the goal here is to create a strategy that truly connects, converts, and makes people feel your brand voice. One very underrated tip is storytelling (I’ll talk more about this element on my next article). I believe strategy is the engine but storytelling is the magnet that pulls people towards you. The secret is in your message, your clarity, your positioning, & your consistency.
Here are some of my favorite elements that you can incorporate into your strategy:
π Copy-writing that grabs attention in 6 words (and keeps them reading the next 600).
π€ PR & Communication that gets people talking about you for all the right reasons.
π‘ Creative strategies that don’t just chase trends but actually fit your brand’s goals.
At the end of the day likes won’t pay your bills. But smart strategies? They’ll grow your business.
π Trends I’m watching for you
As a social media manager, I don’t just follow trends, I love to translate them into opportunities.
These are some of the hottest that I’ve picked for you:
✨ Storytelling (short, authentic, & unpolished = powerful).
π€ Micro-influencers (smaller audiences ➡ bigger trust).
π€ AI tools (hell yes to productivity boost, but hell no to replacing the human touch).
π Community > Vanity Metrics (real connections beat big numbers).
π² Interactive Content (Quizzes & polls increase engagement).
π€πΌ Personalization & UGC (to increase brand awareness).
In my opinion this is how brands stop chasing algorithms and start building impact.
✍π½ The Takeaway
Social media are your first impression, your sales pitch, and your stage all rolled into one. While likes won’t pay the bills, the right strategy surely will! Don’t let the likes distract you from the strategy & its essence. The question isn’t whether you should show up, it’s how can you show up? But don’t worry, that’s my forte. π
A Little About Me
I’ve briefly introduced myself on my previous article but getting a little bit deeper won’t hurt anyone. π I come from a PR, English Literature, Advertising, & Communications background. I love History & Psychology. I’ve built campaigns across various industries & launched numerous products & services ranging from coffee machines, to banking services, to coaching apps. My creativity helps me to bring these ideas to life and to spark conversations among brands which weren’t even a part of their agenda before. I’m not only results-driven, but also very curious by nature and I bring that energy onto my marketing career.
I love to explore new business ideas, help brands grow, listen to others stories, hunt down the best caramel latte in town, build creative campaigns, travel the world, & solve problems. I actually love spending my free time on social media, because every scroll is research (don’t judge π).
Stick around, I’ll be sharing more valuable tips, hot trends, and marketing secrets that even algorithms don’t want you to know. If you’re ready to grow your brand’s presence now, you know where to find me.
Talk soon, on your feed and beyond.
